About the FICC
Dear Camping Friends,
Camping and caravanning are two of the oldest and most traditional forms of tourism. Camping has a long history - in fact it started more than three thousand years ago - and even caravanning dates back to the 16th Century. However, at that time it meant a horse and carriage or a boat and sail.
Interest in camping and caravanning is mainly based on two natural human characteristics. The first one is our inherent desire for freedom and the second is our basic longing to get back to nature. Success is complete when these are combined with a thirst for travel and an appreciation of the value of social contacts with other people.
As an activity, camping and caravanning has wide-ranging appeal across the generations and the number of enthusiasts is growing around the world as people have more leisure time and greater prosperity. It gives everyone, whether singles, couples, families with young children, teenagers or retired people, the chance to have fun, relax and generally enjoy their selves.
The Federation Internationale de Camping et de Caravanning (FICC) is the only worldwide organization solely devoted to camping and caravanning and to defending the interests of campers wherever they are. FICC was originally established in 1933 for the mutual benefit of a number of European camping clubs. Today we represent 56 member Clubs and Federations in 32 different countries on four continents.
Probably the best known of the FICC's activities are its annual International camping and caravanning rallies, including a very special youth rally for young campers across the world, which the FICC Youth Commission organises at Easter every year.
On this website you will find useful information, like our members, the FICC Youth Commission’s activities and also news that will keep you updated. Why not become a camper yourself and join a member Club or Federation in your country?
Give it a try - you will find it is definitely worth it!
Yours friendly,
João Alves Pereira
